Lava Pocket is a trap that can deal a large amount of damage. Despite being lava, it's initial 3 damage can still deal damage to fireproof mobs (the 5 fire damage is negated however).
Lava Pockets work well as an affordable defense that can take out higher health targets, and can be quite powerful to targets with armor.
